Normandy is a fantastic destination for both long and short stays. With up to three ferry sailings a day between Portsmouth and Caen, we offer the flexibility to visit for a city break or weekend trip. For those wishing to stay longer, the region boasts a plethora of attractions, including Mont St Michel and the WW2 D-Day beaches.
We also offer Normandy car tours of different lengths; our ‘Mont St Michel & Normandy West Coast’ car tour is a six night touring break, whilst the ‘A Glimpse of D-Day’ option is a three-night tour.
Normandy is known for its many famous attractions and landmarks, such as the magnificent Mont St Michel, the white cliffs of Etretat, and the picturesque harbour town of Honfleur. This enchanting part of France is also known as the home of the Impressionist art movement, hosting a variety of art museums and the gardens of renowned impressionist painter Claude Monet.
The region also boasts a rich history, including the Bayeux tapestry, historical towns such as Rouen, castles and abbeys from the era of William the Conqueror, and the WW2 D-Day Normandy landing beaches.
‘Normandy’ is the English spelling of the region’s name, whilst ‘Normandie’ is the French spelling. We use the latter for the name of the Brittany Ferries 澳洲幸运10十168体彩开奖网 ship that sails between Portsmouth and Caen, Normandy.
The 5 D-Day beaches – Sword, Juno, Gold, Omaha, and Utah - are situated along the Normandy coast between Ouistreham and Cherbourg.
The closest towns for each of the D-Day beaches are: Ouistreham for Sword Beach, Courseulles-sur-Mer for Juno Beach, Arromanches-les-Bains for Gold Beach, Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer for Omaha Beach, and Saint-Marie-du-Mont for Utah Beach.
Normandy offers opportunities to visit throughout the year. Spring is a great time to visit before the crowds arrive; every June, spectacular D-Day celebrations are held to commemorate the Normandy landings and the following battle of Normandy.
As you’d expect, July and August are warmest months. Deauville film festival, which celebrates American cinema and attracts international stars, is usually held in early September. Food festivals tend to take place throughout the autumn, preceding Christmas markets in December.
