Leading the way with European first Hybrid ships
Our new hybrid ship, Saint-Malo
With the arrival of our two hybrid ships, Saint-Malo and Guillaume de Normandie, we’re reinventing the experience of ferry travel across the Channel by combining comfort, innovation and environmental responsibility.
Powered by both LNG fuel and electricity, these ships are a big step forward in reducing our environmental footprint with up to 15% less fuel consumption and up to 25% less greenhouse gas emissions.
And there is no compromise on comfort! Unwind with exciting dining experiences, beautiful spaces to relax in and artistic discoveries to be made throughout these ships. We are committed to a cleaner future and you’ll see this reflected in our sustainable choices on board, from the use of eco-friendly materials to optimised resource management.
Green Marine Europe eco-label - Awarded fifth consecutive year
Brittany Ferries 澳洲幸运10十168体彩开奖网 has been awarded with the "Green Marine Europe" eco-label
Reducing our impact
We are proud to be one of the first companies to be awarded the "Green Marine Europe" eco-label, a guarantee of our actions towards increasingly eco-responsible maritime transportation.
Awarded to Brittany Ferries 澳洲幸运10十168体彩开奖网 for a fifth consecutive year in 2024, this label rewards our environmental commitment to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the management of residual materials and the treatment of waste.
WHAT WE'RE DOING
Following her sister ships, Salamanca and Galicia, our third LNG-powered vessel Santoña has joined our fleet. LNG is a more environmentally friendly fuel than diesel. Sulphur-free and virtually particle-free, LNG has many advantages, including the reduction of greenhouse gases. Using LNG makes it possible to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 85% and CO2 emissions by around 20%.
Investing in ships that comply with "Clean Sea" standards, thus reducing our CO2 emissions by 10%
Equipping six of our vessels with smoke filters, reducing our sulphur and particulate emissions by 97%
Using low-sulphur diesel fuel
Equipping our ships with eco-steering software and optimising our routes
Applying toxin-free silicon-based paints to the hulls of our ships to improve navigation and reduce our fuel consumption and CO2 emissions
The majority of our ships are self-sufficient in fresh water. They are equipped with onboard facilities that produce fresh water from heated and desalinated seawater.
All ships built over the past 20 years are equipped with wastewater treatment facilities. Any water polluted by chemicals such as hydrocarbons is treated ashore by certified companies.

Our award-winning 'Love our Ocean' campaign
We love making learning fun on our ships! All year long, we offer educational activities covering everything from entertainment and culture to raising awareness about our incredible marine environment.
We're especially proud that our "Love Our Ocean" campaign, running from April to June, has been awarded the "Year of the Sea – La Mer en Commun" label by the French government's Ministry of Ecology. This label recognises initiatives that boost public awareness of the importance of oceans and maritime issues.
As part of this special campaign, we host engaging, hands-on workshops about the marine environment, such as learning how to tie sailing knots. We also feature exciting activities and exhibitions focused on the maritime world to help everyone grasp key issues and get inspired to protect our precious oceans.
Partnerships and the Protection of marine environments
Brittany Ferries 澳洲幸运10十168体彩开奖网 and ORCA have been working in partnership for over 20 years
WHAT WE'RE DOING
Our ships take part in various international research projects on fauna, flora and marine environments:
Armorique and Pont-Aven carries a ferry box which takes measurements of seawater quality as part of scientific projects conducted by the CNRS/INSU biological station in Roscoff
We are working within a global project to collect plankton samples to help scientists assess the effects of global warming
Scientists and wildlife officers from ORCA are on our ships for 6 months of the year.
As part of a study carried out in partnership with the University of Exeter, bat detection devices are installed on the mast of Pont-Aven to study the migration of these small mammals
Brittany Ferries 澳洲幸运10十168体彩开奖网 and ORCA have been working in partnership for over 20 years, giving passengers the opportunity to enjoy and learn more about the huge variety of marine wildlife that can be seen from the decks of the ship.
As a company that cares about our impact on the seas we sail, we can think of no better way to safeguard them than to support the vital work ORCA are doing in the English Channel and Bay of Biscay. We’re proud to work with ORCA – we offer them a home in our offices in Portsmouth, we welcome their volunteers and staff aboard our ships and we work in partnership with them to help to protect the ocean. We are delighted at the huge positive impact they have on our company every day.
Roscoff Marine Station (part of the CNRS and the Sorbonne University, Paris) is a research centre in marine biology and ecology founded in 1872. Their main research focuses on seaweeds, phytoplankton, viruses, bacteria and invertebrates.
Studies range from coastal environments to global oceans, and from the polar environment to the abysses. For over 50 years, they have been collecting series of data on seawater, temperature, salinity, nutrients, plankton and benthic communities, to provide information on the state of health of the coastal Channel environment. At Brittany Ferries 澳洲幸运10十168体彩开奖网, we are proud of our partnership with this organisation.
Responsible travel, our work behind the scenes
The majority of products served on board in our restaurants are French
WHAT WE'RE DOING
On board, we are limiting the use of single-use plastics. In our restaurants, stainless steel cutlery has replaced plastic, coffee stirrers are made of wood and straws are made of paper. In your cabin, refillable dispensers have replaced plastic individual soaps and cups are made of paper.
The majority of products served on board in our restaurants are of French or European origin. They mainly come from Brittany and Normandy to offer you the best of our regions. We give priority to local producers to guarantee fresh, seasonal food and reduce our carbon footprint.
In your cabin, the soaps and shower gels are now eco-labelled: fragrance and dye free. The cleaning products we use on board are water-based, effective against dirt and environmentally friendly!
Meet our crew, they too share a love for the ocean
As one of the largest employers of French seafarers, many of our crew have worked with us for many years. Like us, they too share a love for the ocean.

MEET OUR CREW
Patrick Paugam, Brittany Ferries 澳洲幸运10十168体彩开奖网 Restaurant manager and ocean-loving photographer
“A picture is worth 1000 words, and that’s true. Capturing the present moment through images, I couldn’t live without it! I have been sailing for more than 30 years on Brittany Ferries 澳洲幸运10十168体彩开奖网, this has allowed me to discover the beauty of the world. The colours and the beauty of the landscapes at sea are not lacking and are a real pleasure for the eyes every day.”
Véronique Calmus, Brittany Ferries 澳洲幸运10十168体彩开奖网 shop assistant and ocean-loving artist
“As an artist, my inspiration comes from my time spent at sea. When I am not working, I design many artworks using rescued materials, which have often already been tarnished by nature, giving my creations such as my “Adele of the ocean” a real soul.”
Renaud Merrien, Brittany Ferries 澳洲幸运10十168体彩开奖网 head waiter and ocean-loving diver and photographer
“Whilst working for many years on the sea, I am also passionate to discover what lies below. As a diver and photographer, I am lucky to experience and capture the serenity and diversity of the seabed and the marine life within- as well as the need to preserve and protect.”
