Asturias

This region boasts some of the most scenic and spectacular landscapes in Europe. With often mountainous but lush terrain, Asturias mixes breathtaking scenery with some wonderful towns and historic cities like Oviedo, the region's capital.

Drive into the stunning Picos de Europa mountains and visit the atmospheric Covadonga sanctuary, a famous pilgrimage site, and then take the steep hike up to the lakes for absolutely exquisite views - a great photo opportunity.

Or follow one of the many varied marked footpaths for great walks through the beautiful countryside into neighbouring Cantabria, spotting the abundance of wildlife including birds of prey and chamois on the way. The coastline is packed with secluded sandy beaches, picturesque fishing villages and popular family resorts; visit Llanes with its sheltered coves and cliff paths, or the pretty old estuary town of Ribadasella which holds a famous canoe race in August.

With its rugged coastline and the Picos de Europa, the province of Asturias has a strong offering of golf courses along the coast. Most feature 9 holes and with several municipal courses available, the region is a great option if you are looking for a Spanish golfing holiday.

Taking one of our cruise ferries from Portsmouth or Plymouth is an excellent travel option to Santander, from which Asturias is just a few hours' drive through some of Spain’s most scenic coastline and landscapes.
