500m from Saumur's old town, the lovely Best Western Hotel Adagio is the ideal stopping point for exploring the beautiful Loire Valley. Saumur is probably most famous for its imposing, fairytale castle overlooking the river Loire but it is also well known for its production of delicious sparkling wines which can be sampled at one of its prestigious cellars. The town itself is charming with its medieval streets and central square - Place St Pierre - which is an ideal spot to stop for a meal with a good choice of restaurants - the Grande Bleu which specialises in seafood is particularly recommended. Worth a visit is the mushroom museum and Cadre Noir (horse academy and shows), and for those who enjoy cycling & walking there are many paths to follow along the river banks. This is also the area where you can see some of the Loire's best troglodyte dwellings and its also a great place to take a balloon ride.
