Will I need to pay a Clean Air Zone (CAZ) charge to drive to the port in Portsmouth?
From 29 November 2021, a Clean Air Zone (CAZ) will be in place in Portsmouth to make the city's air cleaner.
Portsmouth International Port is outside of the CAZ and passengers and hauliers driving to and from the port via the M275 will be unaffected. However, if your arrival or departure route is through the CAZ, you will be charged if your vehicle is not compliant.
Which vehicles will be charged?
The Portsmouth CAZ is a Class B and applies to buses, coaches, taxis, private hire vehicles and HGVs only. If these vehicles are older than Euro 6 (if diesel) and Euro 4 (if petrol), they will be charged.
Newer, cleaner vehicles and personal cars and vans will not be charged. There are also some specific vehicle exemptions.
Check if your vehicle will be charged on the Government's Clean Air Zones vehicle checker.
