The lovely resort of Ribadesella lies on two sides of an estuary - one half has a fine sandy beach and the other has the pretty old town and fishing harbour. It’s a pleasant stroll from the Gran Hotel to the town centre with its popular cider bars and good choice of restaurants, including one that is Michelin starred, where you can dine on freshly caught local fish and seafood alongside good old Asturian specialities such as fabada.

Ribadesella is also home to one of the Unesco World Heritage Sites - the Cueva de Tito Bustillo where you can see some of the best and oldest cave art in the world (limited access so best to book ahead) - plus a famous international canoe race which is held the first weekend of August each year when a festival atmosphere takes over with plenty of eating, drinking and dancing.
