Pousada de Viana do Castelo

One of Portugal’s lesser known destinations, the charming city of Viana with its lively fishing port, narrow winding streets and stunning squares is a lovely place to spend a few days. The beach across the river is one of the region's best and the huge domed Basilica on the Santa Luzia Mount overlooking the port is one one of Viana's most important monuments. Behind this and with an unbelievable view of the Portuguese coastline you will find the Pousada. Beautifully furnished throughout it has excellent facilities including an outdoor pool (June-Sept), tennis court and a good restaurant, plus there are plenty of places to relax and drink in the fabulous surroundings. Previous visitors all comment on how friendly and helpful the staff are too.

When visiting the city why not take the funicular down the hill rather than drive - it's a fun way to travel!
