Pousada da Ria

On an isthmus across the water from Murtosa (12k), this Pousada is in a magnificent location right on the water's edge close to São Jacinto beach. The building is very 60s but has a pleasant, modern interior and its quiet verandas overlooking the lagoon is the perfect place to sit and relax, watching the fishermen returning home with their colourful boats laden down with the day's catch. The contemporary bedrooms are air conditioned and have a mini bar, and there is a lovely outdoor pool (June-Sept) with extended views over the ria. Pets accepted 30€/night (max 15kg).

Nearby Torreira, known for its Planeiros - little houses built from the hulls of old boats - is a lively little summer resort popular with the Portuguese who come to take advantage of the surfing, sailing and lovely beaches.
