In a spectacular setting close to the cable car and surrounded by mountains, Fuente De's Parador is of modern design compared to most others and was inaugurated on the same day as the cable car. Furnished in rustic mountain style, bedrooms are of an older fashion but are spacious and well equipped and there is a restaurant that serves local specialities including the warming hearty stew - cocido lebaniego. Other facilities include a large games room with table tennis, billiards and electronic games. Garage parking 6€/night. Pet accepted (1 per room) 25€/night + 100€ deposit.

The drive from Santander to Fuente Dé is amazing, passing through a gorge so deep that sunlight never reaches the bottom, and when you eventually get there, the amazement continues. At an altitude of 1070m, most visitors come here to take the cable car another 800m up to the mountain top from where the views are nothing short of spectacular. Once at the top there are different walking routes of all grades - from a relaxing ramble to a difficult trek - plus a cafe for some light refreshment. On your ascent watch out for wild chamois that roam the mountainside.

The market town of Potes (23km) with its many amenities is an easy drive.
