Medieval Spain tour

Spain is renowned for its wealth of history and culture and this medieval 5 night tour lets you experience it for yourself whilst staying in a selection of impressive Paradores.

Our carefully planned itinerary takes you through a varied landscape of vineyards, mountains, green countryside and picturesque towns and villages.

On this route you will discover magnificent fortresses, palaces, monasteries and cathedrals, walled cities and beautifully preserved medieval streets such as those in Burgo de Osma and Santo Domingo de la Calzada. Along the way there is also the chance to stop off in Pamplona, Olite and Segovia or Laguardia which happens to have the best bodegas around.

Your final stop is in Santillana del Mar, a picture postcard village which is considered to be the prettiest in northern Spain and very popular with tourists, particularly at Easter and in summer – during these times it’s best to visit in the evenings when the crowds have gone to wander around the lovely pottery and souvenir shops. The famous Altamira prehistoric caves are only a 20 minute walk from here.

Travelling by car is easy, the quality of the road network is very good, most of the motorways are free and fuel is much cheaper than in the rest of Europe.

Tours can start on any day from any town on the itinerary but must follow the route in either direction. Approximate tour distances are calculated from the first to the last location. Should any location be unavailable we'll advise alternatives.

Hotel directions

With your travel documents you will find an information sheet for each hotel which has been booked for you giving directions together with some further details.

Arrival

Unless stated, you will be expected to arrive at each of the hotels pre-booked for you by 6pm each day. This should allow you time to have a fairly leisurely drive between hotel stops but if you find you will be arriving later than this please ring and advise the hotelier so that your room is held for you.

Extra charges

Details of which meals are included at your hotels are shown on your travel documentation and on these pages. All additional meals, drinks, phone calls etc must be paid for prior to departure from the hotel.
