The Hotel Mercure Omaha is part of a superb 36 hole golfing complex 1.2km from the appealing fishing port of Port en Bessin that nestles between cliffs and is noted for its scallops. Spectacularly located on the cliffs above the Landing Beaches, the two 18 hole courses are to international standard and the hotel facilities are excellent both for golfers and non golfers alike. Port en Bessin's harbour and surroundings are very picturesque and you can follow a marked trail on a self-guided walking tour to discover its history. Excursions & boat rides are available to explore the nearby D-Day Landing beaches (Omaha Beach 5km) where there are various museums dedicated to this wartime period, and there is also the shipwreck museum on the outskirts of town which displays the artefacts found over the last 60 years whilst clearing the bay to make fishing and diving safer. The town itself is quite small with the main area centred around the port, and there's an excellent Sunday market plus a fabulous fish market where you can buy the freshest seafood caught that morning.
