In a central position close to the fishing harbour, the charming Hotel La Résidence des Artistes is in a quiet street named after the 'Onion Johnnies'. The colour co-ordinated bedrooms are bright and stylish, the staff and owners are very friendly, and in cooler months a log fire burns in the lounge. This really is a great place to unwind and, if you want to truly relax but feel invigorated afterwards, why not spend a few hours in the seawater spa which, along with the Roc'h Kroum beach, is just a short walk away. Steeped in pirate lore, the granite built fishing village of Roscoff has long term connections with Scotland too, seeing the comings and goings of Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie. It's also the home of the famous French onion sellers who cycled around Britain with strings of pink Roscoff onions tied to their bicycles and the Maison des Johnnies museum is a great place to discover their story - if you are in Roscoff in August don't miss the annual onion festival too! Elsewhere, you can explore the village by following the circuit du patrimoine - a 3.5km marked walk through the narrow streets which highlights buildings of importance and significant people who have lived there. Discover delightful art galleries and gift shops, crêperies - a savoury or sweet crêpe (pancake) is lovely accompanied by the local cider - and pretty good Breton restaurants too. And don't miss a trip by boat across the harbour to the pretty Ile de Batz where the only cars allowed belong to the locals and most people travel by bicycle. As well as lovely beaches it has gorgeous gardens and a lighthouse, plus you can walk the coastal footpath or follow cycling trails through attractive countryside.
