Traditional in style, the family run Hotel del Oso and its annexe is an absolute gem and a favourite with our clients. The staff, many of whom dress in local costume, and the 2 resident St Bernard dogs are on hand to welcome you and ensure your stay here is nothing short of perfect. With the Picos mountains as a backdrop, the immaculate grounds provide the ideal place to relax or make use of the pool in warmer weather (June-Sept). But, the highlight is, without doubt, its well known restaurant which is enormously popular with both visitors and locals alike, and specialises in very generous portions of top quality Cantabrian dishes. Pets not accepted.

Due to its location you will need a car when staying here as there is no public transport and the nearest amenities are in Potes (13km).

For anyone who loves the great outdoors, then Cosgaya is a superb choice and is an ideal base for discovering the wonderful Picos area. Surrounded by picturesque scenery, it's a pretty little community on the banks of the river Deva and is a great place for walking so there are plenty of marked trails around.

Potes, the local capital, is a short drive and straddles the river Deva. It's a popular centre for organised outdoor pursuits including white water rafting, climbing, canoeing, horse riding and 4x4 jeep trips into the mountains and has a lovely old quarter full of traditional houses, numerous tempting restaurants and souvenir shops plus a weekly Monday market. There is also the Fiesta del Orujo held annually in November. It's a celebration of the drink of the same name when the locals dress in traditional costume and there is lots of music and dancing into the early hours. Samples of Orujo, which is made on the spot at portable stills, are available in a variety of flavours with plenty of eating and there is also a competition for the best produced spirit. A great experience if you are lucky to be there at that time.
