Hotel de l'Univers 3*

The Hotel de l'Univers is in an excellent location on the bustling square in the old walled town, 1km from the ferry terminal. Overlooking the Château de St Malo, part of which is now the town hall (Hotel de Ville), you have the attractions of Intra Muros on your doorstep so it’s not surprising that this is a favourite with our clients. The bar, which is well known locally, has a good old British nautical feel and with its comfortable extended terrace there is no doubt that it is one of the best, and most popular, in town. Pet accepted €10/night + £150 deposit (held on credit card).

Foot passengers - the hotel is 1km from the ferry terminal which is about a 20 minute walk. Alternatively, taxis are available (10-15€) or you can catch the mini bus/shuttle which runs every 20 minutes - does not run on Sundays - and will drop you outside Intra Muros.

With its long maritime tradition and historic attractions, St Malo is one of France's great tourist centres and is ideal for a break at any time of the year. The town is split into 3 main parts - Paramé, St Servan and, without doubt the most popular, Intra Muros (within the walls) where strolling through the maze of cobbled streets with their tall granite buildings, lively bars, restaurants, and stylish boutiques feels like stepping back in time. You can take a bracing walk around the ancient ramparts admiring the fabulous views or take a ride on the little road train and discover places you might have otherwise missed. For a day at the seaside you need venture no further as the local beaches are superb and opposite the old town there are 2 or 3 little offshore islands and forts that can be reached on foot at low tide, one of which is Grand Bé where the writer Chateaubriand is buried. Even if the weather is less than perfect at times there are still plenty of things to see and do including the grand aquarium, the thalassotherapy centre (spa treatments), the casino, the fabulous Memorial 39-45 museum and the Fort National - the list is endless. One thing is for sure though, once you've visited St Malo it's almost certain that you'll return.
