Spain's Game of Thrones tour

Whether or not you’re a follower of this epic series, Season 5 filming took place in several areas in Spain which are worth visiting in their own right. This tour guides you to some of these great places in the beautiful north east of the country. They include San Juan de Gaztelugatxe and the beach at Itzurun on the dramatic Basque coast which provided the perfect setting for Dragonstone and the shores of Westeros in Game of Thrones®.

Also nearby is Muriola beach in Barrika (King’s Landing in a scene with Davos and Gendry while Tyrion is in a secret meeting with Jaime), and the desert landscape of Bardenas Reales, around an hour south of Pamplona, made the ideal setting for Queen Daenerys Targaryen’s ride on horseback.

Our 5 night route will take you to great destinations to stay overnight, such as the vibrant city of Bilbao with its modern architecture and Guggenheim museum. Not to mention the food lovers’ capital of San Sebastian set in a sweeping bay, and Logroño in the heart of the Rioja wine region.

Car travel in Spain is easy, the quality of the road network is very good, most of the motorways are free and fuel is much cheaper than in the rest of Europe.

Tours can start on any day from any town on the itinerary but must follow the route in either direction. Approximate tour distances are calculated from the first to the last location. Should any location be unavailable we'll advise alternatives.

Hotel direction

With your travel documents you will find an information sheet for each hotel which has been booked for you giving directions together with some further details.

Arrival

Unless stated, you will be expected to arrive at each of the hotels pre-booked for you by 6pm each day. This should allow you time to have a fairly leisurely drive between hotel stops but if you find you will be arriving later than this please ring and advise the hotelier so that your room is held for you.

Extra charges

Details of which meals are included at your hotels are shown on your travel documentation and on these pages. All additional meals, drinks, phone calls etc must be paid for prior to departure from the hotel.
