Domaine de Rochevilaine 4*

It is difficult to say what is the very best thing about the superb Domaine de Rochevilaine - is it the highly acclaimed cooking, the glorious seaside location, or the pampering available in the hotel's own spa. The hotel is split between 6 different buildings - 4 are solely bedrooms, another houses the spa centre and a few bedrooms and the last is the original manor house where you will find the gourmet restaurant (closed Mon/Tues from 7/10-27/5). Facilities also include a heated outdoor pool (May-Oct). After a day's hedonism and an excellent meal you can then retire to a spacious bedroom and dream of the pleasures to come tomorrow. Pet accepted (in bedrooms only) 14€/night.

In an unspoilt corner of southern Brittany, 20km from Vannes, the small fishing village of Billiers borders the Vilaine estuary and over the years has become a pleasant little seaside resort thanks in part to its 3 beaches and the Pointe de Pen Lan. There are many walking trails here, including part of the GR34 old customs’ path (Sentier des Douaniers), which are popular with visitors who come to discover the fabulous landscape and its natural heritage including the Grays Cairn and the Neolithic dolmens. The views are pretty amazing too. There is also a 13th century Cistercian abbey and the Pen Lan lighthouse which overlooks the harbour where a replica of the Belle de Vilaine, a 20th century old rigging boat, is docked.
