Situated in the Bay of Paimpol, Beauport Abbey is a remarkable complex. Not only is it a wonderful example of religious architecture, it co-exists alongside an area of stunning natural beauty.

500 years of monastic life

At the beginning of the 13th century, Count Alain de Goëlo founded Beauport Abbey and installed canons of the Premonstratensian order. For 500 years the religious community shaped the site. They carried out major renovations - in accordance with their monastic rules - and fulfilled the needs of their community.

The abbey, shut down during the French Revolution, was then sold as national property. The abbey buildings were transformed into a stable, town hall, flats, a school and even a cider house.

Maritime abbey and biodiversity

Built in the heart of 120-hectares of natural habitat, Beauport Abbey occupies a privileged position in the Bay of Paimpol. Combined with the historical value of the abbey complex, this makes for an exceptional estate. Recognised for its architectural and environmental qualities, a range of biodiversity and preserved environments can be discovered close to the building.

Visit at nightfall during Christmastime and the abbey is brought to life with enchanting lights and decorations. An ethereal atmosphere continues inside thanks to the amazing work of Vortex - this art collective will be exhibiting a contemporary plastic art installation throughout the winter.
